Taillevent

The first cookbook ever written was by this man, Taillevent.  He wrote down oral traditions, which had been passed down from chef to chef during the Middle Ages in Paris.  In it he has recipes for peacock, stork, eagle, heron and violet and sage wine.  I'm making the sage wine for tonight to have with duck (Lily's favorite).  He suggests sprinkling some gold leaf in the drinks... This is part of my Paris story that's consuming me and my kitchen at the moment.
